Claude Watermark Remover

Free tool to clean text from Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and other AI assistants. This AI watermark remover strips hidden zero-width characters, invisible spaces and other unicode markers — and tells you straight what it cannot touch.

Free · no sign-up · nothing leaves your browser

Detect AI watermarks

Find the hidden characters detection systems use to fingerprint content from Claude and other AI tools.

Clean AI text

Remove zero-width spaces, zero-width joiners and every other invisible character in one pass.

See what was removed

Detailed statistics on every watermark character found, named by its unicode code point.

Remove em dashes

Detect and handle em dashes, en dashes and two-em dashes — replace with hyphens or remove with smart spacing.

How does AI watermarking work?

Three different things get called a watermark, and telling them apart decides whether any tool can help you.

Embedded text watermark

Cannot be removed

A statistical bias in which words the model chose, keyed to a secret. Nothing is inserted, so there is nothing to delete. This is what Claude now uses.

Invisible unicode characters

Removed by this tool

Zero-width spaces, joiners, bidi marks and lookalike spaces riding along in the copy-paste. Common, disruptive, and trivially stripped.

C2PA file metadata

Removed by re-encoding

Signed provenance attached to generated image files. Lost through format conversion or re-saving — which is what our image tool does.

Anthropic confirmed on 11 August 2026 that Claude embeds the first kind in all generated text, worldwide, with no opt-out, to satisfy Article 50 of the EU AI Act. Per Anthropic's own documentation the only things that leave no detectable mark are heavy editing, paraphrasing, translation, mixing into other writing, or a passage too short to carry a signal. Deleting characters is not on that list — so be sceptical of any site claiming a one-click fix. The full picture is in the Claude watermark guide.

Frequently asked questions about AI watermarks

+ What is a Claude watermark?

Since August 2026 it means a machine-readable statistical watermark that Anthropic embeds in Claude's generated text at the model level — a pattern in word choice, not hidden characters. The term is also used loosely for invisible unicode characters that travel in AI text, and for signed C2PA metadata attached to generated image files. The three are entirely different things and only two of them can be removed.

+ Does Claude add watermarks to its text?

Yes. Anthropic confirmed on 11 August 2026 that supported Claude models embed an invisible machine-readable watermark in generated text, applied worldwide across the API, Claude, Claude Code, Claude Cowork and Claude Tag, with no opt-out. It was introduced to meet Article 50 of the EU AI Act.

+ Can this tool remove Claude's text watermark?

The cleaner on this page cannot — no character cleaner can, because the watermark is a statistical bias in which words the model chose rather than a character you can delete. The separate Claude text watermark remover attacks it the only way that works, by rewriting word choice through synonyms, connectives and contractions, and reports what share of words it changed. Treat that as disruption rather than a guaranteed erase.

+ How does this watermark remover work?

It scans your text character by character against a list of over 70 known invisible unicode code points — zero-width characters, word joiners, bidirectional marks, variation selectors and lookalike spaces. Invisible characters are deleted, space lookalikes become regular spaces, and every visible character is preserved exactly.

+ Is my text sent to a server?

No. There is no backend and no upload. All processing runs in your browser with JavaScript — you can disconnect from the internet and the tool keeps working. Nothing is logged, stored or transmitted.

+ Is it legal to remove AI watermarks?

Removing invisible characters from your own text is generally legal for personal use. Follow the terms of service of the AI platforms you use, and disclose AI assistance where a school, publisher or employer requires it.

+ Do other AI tools like ChatGPT or Gemini use watermarks?

OpenAI has confirmed building a ChatGPT text watermarking system but has not shipped it. Google's SynthID covers images, audio and video, with text watermarking researched separately. This tool works on output from any model, since the invisible characters involved are the same across all of them.

Remove Claude Watermark is free and always will be. No account, no limits, no data collection.
